Which Type of Rubber Extrusion Do You Need?
Start with the requirement that most closely matches your cross-section or sealing application.
Is Rubber Extrusion the Right Process for Your Part?
Rubber extrusion is generally suitable for parts with a continuous cross-section along their length. If the geometry changes significantly in three dimensions, molded rubber manufacturing may be more appropriate.
Extrusion is typically suitable for
- Continuous sealing profiles
- Cords
- Channels
- Bulbs
- Hollow profiles
- Long strips
- Cut lengths
Consider molding when
- Geometry changes along the part
- There are complex three-dimensional features
- Integral holes / bosses are required
- The part cannot be produced as a continuous section
How to Choose a Rubber Material for Extrusion
Material selection should be based on the operating environment, media exposure, temperature range and required profile performance.

Where Are Rubber Extrusion Profiles Used?
Rubber extrusion profiles are used across applications requiring sealing, cushioning, gap compensation and environmental protection.
Electrical Enclosures & Cabinets
Rubber extrusion profiles are used around enclosure doors and access panels to help protect against water, dust and outdoor exposure.
Windows, Doors & Building Systems
Extruded seals provide weather sealing and gap compensation around windows, doors, curtain walls and other building interfaces.
Industrial Machinery & Equipment
Custom profiles are used for equipment doors, covers, guards and interfaces where dimensional fit, vibration isolation or environmental sealing is required.
Automotive & Transportation
Extruded profiles are used for doors, windows, compartments, edge protection and weather sealing across automotive and transportation equipment.
High-Temperature Equipment
Silicone extrusion profiles are commonly considered where sealing flexibility must be maintained across elevated or widely varying temperatures.
HVAC & Ventilation Systems
Rubber extrusion profiles can provide compression sealing, vibration isolation and gap compensation in HVAC housings, access panels and duct interfaces.
How Custom Rubber Extrusion Profiles Are Produced
From raw material to finished profiles, every step is managed to ensure consistent quality and performance.
Material Preparation
Selected rubber compounds are prepared and mixed to meet the required properties.
Extrusion
The compound is extruded through a precision die to form the desired profile shape.
Vulcanization (Curing)
Profiles are cured in continuous or batch ovens to achieve the required physical properties.
Cooling & Sizing
Profiles are cooled and sized to stabilize dimensions and maintain shape accuracy.
Secondary Processing
Cutting, adhesive backing, punching, splicing, and other finishing processes are completed as required.
Inspection & Packaging
Dimensions, appearance, and finished condition are inspected before packaging and shipment.
Quality Control for Rubber Extrusion Profiles
Production and quality inspection are coordinated against the approved sample or drawing, material specification, critical dimensions, and other agreed requirements for each custom extrusion project.
Dimensional Accuracy
Overall width, height, thickness, and other specified dimensions are checked against the approved drawing or sample.
Critical Profile Geometry
Critical sealing and installation dimensions such as wall thickness, bulb diameter, groove width, lips, and channels are checked where applicable.
Co-Extrusion Bond Integrity
For co-extruded profiles, bonded interfaces are checked for separation or delamination according to the agreed project requirements.
Surface & Profile Consistency
The profile is checked for visible deformation, surface defects, inconsistent cross-sections, and other appearance issues.
Secondary Processing & Finished Condition
Cut length, adhesive backing, punching, joints, and other finishing operations are checked where required.
Material Compliance & Documentation
Compliance availability depends on the selected compound, grade and project requirements. Confirm required documentation before ordering.
Restriction of Hazardous Substances
Confirm applicable compound and documentation requirements before order.
REACH Documentation
Documentation can be available for selected grades according to the material used.
Food-Contact Requirements
Availability is formulation- and application-specific and should be confirmed during material selection.
Flammability Rating
Availability is grade-specific and should be confirmed against the required project rating.
What Should You Check When Choosing a Rubber Extrusion Manufacturer?
A custom extrusion project depends on more than the extrusion line itself. Tooling, materials, dimensional control, secondary processing and project coordination all affect the finished result.
Can they manufacture both solid and sponge profiles?
Can they support custom tooling?
Do they understand material selection?
Can they control critical dimensions?
Do they provide secondary processing?
Can they provide relevant material documentation?
Can they produce prototypes?
How are finished profiles inspected?

Custom Rubber Extrusion FAQ
Common questions about drawings, samples, tooling, tolerances, materials, MOQ, secondary processing and documentation.
Yes. An existing rubber profile can be used as a reference for initial evaluation and profile matching. If available, providing key dimensions, material information, or application conditions will help us assess the project more accurately.
Not always. For common extrusion profiles such as D-,
P-, U-, or other standard cross-section designs, a PDF
drawing or dimensioned cross-section is usually
sufficient for quotation and initial evaluation.
For complex or irregular custom profiles, a 3D drawing
is recommended so that the geometry and critical
features can be reviewed more accurately. We can also
begin an initial evaluation from an existing physical
sample.
Most custom cross-section profiles require dedicated extrusion tooling. Tooling requirements and cost depend on the profile geometry, dimensions, material, and manufacturing process.
Yes. Trial samples can normally be arranged after tooling is completed. Samples are used to confirm profile geometry, fit, material, and other agreed requirements before production.
For existing tooling and available profile sizes, the
MOQ can start from 500 meters.
For new custom profiles requiring dedicated tooling,
the MOQ depends on the profile size, cross-section
complexity, material, and production requirements.
We confirm the applicable MOQ after reviewing the
drawing or sample.
Common options include EPDM, silicone, NBR, TPV, FKM, and other elastomers depending on the application. If the material has not yet been specified, we can help evaluate suitable options based on temperature, weather exposure, oils, chemicals, compression, and other operating conditions.
Achievable tolerances depend on the material, cross-section size, wall thickness, geometry, and critical dimensions of the profile. Tolerance requirements should therefore be reviewed on a project-by-project basis rather than applying one fixed tolerance to every extrusion.
Yes, these secondary operations can be coordinated where required. Profiles may be supplied as continuous rolls, cut lengths, adhesive-backed strips, joined loops, or other finished configurations depending on the project.
Yes, different profile constructions can be evaluated according to the sealing function and application. For co-extruded profiles, material compatibility, geometry, bonding requirements, and production volume must be reviewed before production.
Documentation depends on the selected material and project requirements. Available documents may include material specifications, inspection records, compliance documentation, certificates, or third-party test reports where applicable.
Lead time depends on whether new tooling is required, material availability, sample approval, order quantity, and secondary processing. We confirm the expected tooling, sampling, and production schedule after reviewing the project requirements.
